2005Channel 4 RecordingWhen Keo Films, producers of the hit Channel 4 programme River Cottage Specials, wanted a recording of the brass band setting of The Ash Grove, they turned to the publishers, NJH Music of Barnsley, for their help. NJH Music approached the local band Dodworth Colliery M.W. Band for a recording.Nigel Horne, of NJH Music, said, “We decided to use The Dodworth Band because of their professionalism and we knew that they would do a first rate job.” Keo Films used two clips of the band in the programme that features the chef Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall on a UK road trip. NJH Music gave us only one week to prepare a piece of music to broadcast standard, and to make matters worse it is a piece that we didn't know. It was a tough challenge but we were thrilled to be asked and we happily put in the time and effort needed for the broadcast. Eliot Darwin our musical director, said of the recording “This was an unusual setting, a sort of Ash Grove à la Glenn Miller, which meant some hard work for theband, but we are all pleased with the outcome.” The programme was scheduled for broadcast by Channel 4 on 7 th December 2005 To listen to an mp3 of the recording: Ash Grove For further information about NJH Music please call 01226 241048 E-mail Nigel at njh @bandsman.co.uk
