2007 Wilkinsons Northern Open Champions Dodworth were back on winning form at the Wilkinsons Northern Open contest this weekend, Sunday 18th November. Performing Goff Richards' test piece, Oceans, the band came out on top out of a total of 8 bands on the day in the 3rd section, playing off a number 3 draw. The piece was chosen less than 3 weeks ago by the MD Eliot Darwin, and posed a tough challenge for the band but all the players put in the hard work once again to pull off a brilliant performance under Eliots guidence. Welldone to all the players and many thanks for their hard work. BBC Radio Sheffield Carol Concert Recording Dodworth have been invited back to record the annual BBC Radio Sheffield Christmas carol concert following last years succsesfull recording, Last years debut recording for the event received very favourable comments for both the Band and M.Ds professionalism and performance so we will be looking to duplicate this once again. The rehearsal and recording will take place this year at the Emmanuel Church,Barnsley. Details of the broadcast dates will follow shortly Academy Theatre Concert Sunday 25th November Tickets are on sale for our Autumn concert at The Academy Theatre, Birdwell,Barnsley - tickets are £7.00 and can be obtained by contacting the secretary Rob on 01226 246148, the Academy Theatre itself on 01226 744442 or from the bandroom on Tuesday and Friday nights or alternativly Email mail@dodworthcollieryband.co.uk T.V. Debut for Dodworth On Sunday 7th October, the band featured on the BBC's Politics Show. The programme highlighted the difference in Lottery Funding between the elitest arts such as Operas in London and the Brass Band movement throughout the country. The band were filmed during rehearsal and members of the band were also interviewed. To read more about the programme click here. National Brass Band Championships Of Great Britain Dodworth qualified earlier in the year by winning the Yorkshire Regional 3rd Section Championships at Bradford's St. George's Hall. Going to Harrogate as the favourites to win, but on the day the bands performance only gave us 6th position out of 18 bands. According to the adjudicators, the bands performance had everything required to win but a few too many slips may have cost us the title. A big thanks must go out to all the players in the band and Eliot for all their hard work and determination on the run up to the competition. The band is looking forward to competing in the 2nd Section next year and hopes for another succesful year. Saddleworth Whit Friday March Contests Our annual appearance in the Whit Friday march contests resulted in Dodworth taking three prizes on the evening performing The Cossack. After managing to visit five villages - Denshaw, Scouthead, Greenacre, Grotton and finishing at Friezland. The prizes gained were: Denshaw - 2nd in Third section, Grotton - 2nd in 2nd section and Friezland 3rd overall.Well done to all our players and guests Mary, Laura, Alan and Simon. Listen to our Friezland performance at youtube.com http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HwLIFkx_oNU Tameside Open Champions 2007 3rd Section For the second year in sucsession Dodworth have taken the wiiners trophy at Lancashires Tameside open Championships held on Sunday 25th March, playing from a number three draw we played our own choice test piece Peter Grahams Dimensions that was put together on remarkably few rehearsals. Job well done! Yorkshire Area Champions 2007 3rd Section Newly promoted from the 4th section we have now taken the Yorkshire Area 3rd Section Champion Band title after competing at St Georges Hall in Bradford on the 3rd March. The contest saw us competing in a field of eleven bands playing off a number five draw and finishing two points clear of the rest of the other bands. Once again a big thanks must be given to all players, supporters and our M.D Eliot Darwin for all the hard work done before the contest which made this possible. Lundhill Colliery Disaster Memorial On Monday 19th February Dodworth Band played for the memorial service held at the unveiling of a memorial dedicated to those who perished in the Lundhill Colliery disaster at Wombwell. The disaster claimed the lives of 189 men and boys in an underground explosion and fire in the year 1857. Kippax Band Knockout Entertainment Contest Dodworth go through to the Semi Finals of the Kippax Entertainment Contest to be held on Sunday 12th August 2007 |
